    How is merit calculated?

So I just won a match, and earned 116/216 merit.

My stats were 4-0-23 of our teams 31 kills.

I'm just wondering why I earned nearly half the rewards for pretty much being there every team kill and never dying? Because I played as an actual support instead of just carrying?

    1. First Victory of the Day.
    2. Game mode, GD 80+, CC 60+ GH 40+.
    3. Kills to deaths. <---I guess Zag said Assists are registered as kills.

That's what I have figure out since I started watching merit. The developers have yet to state on this matter yet, so all we have are players speculations.

Its just random I think, except for the first win of the day.

    Re: How is merit calculated?

I'm guessing it has to do with OTHER'S merit gains that match. Namely, there have been times I have had the max merit, and many times I have not. I think that has to do with if someone else earned the first win of the day that match when you already got it earlier. I'm pretty sure I'm usually 100 away from the max when I don't get max merit that game.

It was also speculated in another topic a few weeks ago that securing objectives helped boost your score, because some people were getting crazy good KDAs but received less than someone who died more and killed less, but took points, or relays, or used deployables. I don't think I saw any confirmation of this but it is a good thing to keep in mind, because if true it could help stem the idea that the people who get more kills at the expense of obtaining objectives are 'better players cuz they died less and killed twice as many as you, n00b.'

    Re: How is merit calculated?

I love seeing this pop back up, because I would love an answer to it as well.

But others are on the right track for sure. Bunny for one, at least far as I can tell. I really wouldn't worry too much about when it says you didn't get max merit. Everytime I see that, I notice it's off by 100, and when I get my first win of the day, its always max merit out of whatever number possible, if its a repeated win, it's always 100 merit away from full.

Why they make a bar that only fills to the max on your first and only bonus win gain of the day is beyond me, so I would have to assume there is some other purpose...but until we are finally told the madness behind merit gain we shall never know.

Of all the topics to not weigh in on, this is the one that perplexes me most when it comes to the Dev's here. It seems like a rather innocent question : (

Maybe its because there is a terrible flaw that could be exposed in how merit is calculated that would lead to chaos. Maybe they are testing the math skills of the players...waiting for a prodigy to step forward with the golden formula behind it all! He shall be a prophet, a bringer of the new age! With this formula he will also bring a lag free environment, rid the afk's from the land and slay the legendary input bugs that are said to plague our servers!

Chose to believe what you will...I choose to believe in the "Chosen One."

Maybe is bugged for a future "Merit Boost" item.

The tipical "you earned this much, but if you buy a merit boost you will have this much"
It's not about where you were born.
    Or what powers you have.
Or what you wear on your chest.
    It's about what you do...
    ...It's about action.

Ya I'm thinking its this. Someone on the team got 216 from the GD bonus win or something. Because the 116 is normal for a win for me, and sometimes its 116/116 or itll do the 216.

    Re: How is merit calculated?

So we've been doing some talking in the offices recently regarding Merit Gain and, well, we agree with the community. Merit will be boosted in an upcoming patch.

Now, while we'll get into greater detail about this later, Merit is calculated by a variety of variables -- Time in Match, Win or Loss, if you have a lower level, how far along you are on your play streak (play games without quitting and we up your merit per game), and a bonus if it's your first win of the day.

But, like I said, we'll talk more about it very soon.
